How to Edit Videos with Claude in Final Cut Pro

Apple doesn't offer a Claude connector for Final Cut Pro. Here's how to get a rough cut and captions from an agent and finish in Final Cut, and what the community MCP servers can do.

Search for how to edit videos with Claude in Final Cut Pro and you find two kinds of answers: community MCP servers that control Final Cut or edit its XML files, and workflows where an AI agent prepares the cut and Final Cut finishes it. This guide explains what each route does today and where to start.

The short answer: Claude can't operate Final Cut Pro on its own, and Apple doesn't offer a Claude connector. The quickest route is to let VideoStudio in Orkas make the rough cut and captions from your footage, then finish the edit in Final Cut Pro. If you want an agent to work on Final Cut itself, community MCP servers can do that, and you can add one to Orkas as a connector.

Can Claude edit videos in Final Cut Pro?

Not directly. Claude doesn't see or click through the Final Cut Pro window, and as of October 27, 2026 we found no official Apple MCP server or Claude connector for Final Cut. Three routes work today:

  • An agent edits outside Final Cut. An AI agent on your Mac reads the footage, proposes a cut, removes pauses and filler words, adds captions and exports the video and caption files. Final Cut opens the result like any other media. This is how VideoStudio works, and it needs no plugin.
  • Community MCP servers. Open-source projects take two approaches. fcp-mcp controls the running app and also edits FCPXML files, while fcp-mcp-server works on timelines you export as XML. Both are unofficial projects, not Apple products.
  • Plain files. Whatever does the edit, the handoff to Final Cut is a rough cut as an MP4 and the captions as an .srt file.

None of these routes watches your footage the way you do. Agents work from the transcript, the audio and frames they extract, so choices about the story, the pacing and the best take stay with you. Hand the agent the repetitive passes and keep the creative calls.

Edit the video with VideoStudio in Orkas

We recommend starting with VideoStudio, the video agent built into Orkas. Give it your footage and the result you want. It proposes the edit, waits for your approval and then produces the video. It can cut long pauses and filler words, add captions and voiceover, make vertical versions for Shorts and Reels, and prepare versions in other languages. It runs on macOS and needs no Final Cut plugin.

  1. Install Orkas and sign in. New accounts get 500 free credits for the built-in models, so you can start without an API key. You can also connect your own model provider.
  2. Choose VideoStudio and add your clips.
  3. Describe the result: the length, the aspect ratio, what to keep, the caption language and the files you want back.
  4. Review the proposed cut before it renders. Then review the video and ask for focused changes, such as a shorter opening or a different closing shot.

A task to give VideoStudio

Add your footage, replace the brackets and send this to VideoStudio:

Edit [my footage] into a [2-minute] video for [audience].
Read the footage and show me the cut before you render.
Remove long pauses and filler words such as "um" and "uh".
Keep the clearest take of each point and add [English] captions.
Deliver an MP4 without burned-in captions and a matching .srt file
so I can finish the edit in Final Cut Pro.
Keep my original files unchanged.

When the cut is ready, ask for specific changes, for example: "Open with the second take, cut the middle example and keep the rest." VideoStudio revises that part and keeps what you have already approved.

Finish the edit in Final Cut Pro

Let the agent handle the passes that are the same every time, and use Final Cut Pro for the decisions that need an editor's eye: pacing, music, color, titles and your brand look.

  1. Import the MP4 into a Final Cut Pro library and add it to a project.
  2. Import the .srt file (File ▸ Import ▸ Captions) to add the captions to the project, where you can restyle them.
  3. Check the sync. Compare the first and last captions with the audio, and check again after any new cuts.

Want an agent to work on Final Cut itself? Use an MCP server

If you would rather have an agent change your Final Cut library or its exported XML, use a community MCP server. Orkas is an MCP client: in a chat, ask the Commander to add the server as a connector, or connect your own Claude Code (choose Connect agents in the sidebar) and let it use the server.

  • Follow each project's install steps and check which Final Cut and macOS versions it supports.
  • Save a copy of the library before an agent changes it, and ask for a plan before it edits.
  • The agent works from what the server exposes, such as clips, markers and the timeline, not from watching the footage.

Questions

Can Claude edit videos in Final Cut Pro?

Not on its own. Community MCP servers can let an agent control Final Cut or edit its XML, and an agent such as VideoStudio can make the cut and captions outside Final Cut for you to import.

Does Final Cut Pro have an MCP server?

We did not find one from Apple as of October 27, 2026. The Final Cut Pro MCP servers that exist are community projects.

Do I need Claude Code or an API key?

No. VideoStudio runs in Orkas with the built-in models, and new accounts get 500 free credits. If you already use Claude Code or your own model provider, you can connect them instead.

Does the agent replace an editor?

No. It takes the repetitive passes, such as pauses, filler words, captions and extra formats. The story, the pacing and the best take stay with you.
